Ministering to the spiritual needs of those incarcerated in county, state and federal jails, and also to longer term inmates housed in Texas state prisons, as well as, communications with their families to ease their suffering caused by the absence of their loved ones. This important ministry has been singled out recently by Archbishop Daniel Dinardo as one of two, the other being hospital ministry, which has the greatest need of Deacons and lay Chaplain volunteers within the Galveston/Houston archdiocese.

Duties are varied but include

  • Cell to Cell inmate visitation may involve

Prayer, Delivery of Bibles, spiritual material and providing Holy Communion to practicing Catholic inmates

  • Family member interfacing

Receiving calls or letters concerning serious family illness, death, etc; notifying inmates of family crisis situations, notifying families concerning possibly areas of concern

  • Conducting Catholic Communion Services

Scripture Readings, Gospel reflection and meditation, providing Holy Communion to practicing Catholics

If you are a good listener, compassionate to those who are suffering, and can devote 4 hours a week on a regular basis then you would be a blessing to this ministry! Be among the ‘SHEEP’ (Mat 25; 31 to 46) and volunteer if you feel a calling to this Ministry.

The Food Angel Ministry is a very rewarding ministry for Parishioners who are in desperate need of someone cooking a warm meal for them. If you are a parishioner of St. Luke and are in need of some temporary food support (groceries or a hot home cooked meal) due to loss of income or unable to leave the house due to illness, please call the Parish Office at 281 481-6816.

H.U.G.S. is a group for widows. It originated in the summer of 2003 when Fr. Steve, one of our former pastors, saw a need for a group to minister to those who were alone due to the loss of a spouse. Fr. Steve asked one of our parishioners, Dee Rubens, to organize this ministry. Dee had never done anything like this before and did not know where to start. She called a few friends who were also widows and asked for their opinions. They thought it was a great idea for those in similar situations to be able to get together to help support each other. Since this was the main goal of the group, Dee decided on the name H.U.G.S. which stands for Help Us Give Support. H.U.G.S. fills the requirement  for people who enjoy being around others and who understand the need for companionship and friendship.

H.U.G.S. members will get together to attend plays, movies, have lunch or go to a nice restaurant for dinner. These outings are always fun and enjoyable for everyone!

If you have recently lost your spouse,or if you have been widowed for sometime,
H.U.G.S. is here for you.Don't spend time alone, join us.

We will welcome you with a big HUG!
