In an article titled “Operating Your Heavenly Account” in Today’s Lifeline Magazine, Emmanuel Aladenusi, points out that God made us up of two parts, that of the flesh and that of the spirit. And as Christians, it is important to always have our actions come from and by the spirit and not the flesh. Jesus cautions us, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” (Matthew 6:19-21) We can take two very important lessons from these few sentences. The first being, that we have a Heavenly Account which we need to be more concerned about than earthly things. And the second, is that what we hold as valuable and important is where our heart will be. We have all been there, our mind might say one thing, but we tend to listen to our heart when making decisions.

Our Heavenly Account is not subject to loss like our earthly treasures from thieves, inflation, a financial collapse, etc. Also, a great benefit to having this Heavenly Account is that God manages these accounts and no one gives returns on investments better than Him. Your investments will keep bearing fruit and continue to grow!

The exciting truth about our Heavenly Account is that we can use it in Heaven and on earth. Emmanuel writes that a pastor once explained this phenomenon as follows, when we don’t have assets, we always have access! What this means, is that when we make it a point to act from and by the spirit, our lives do not seem so overwhelming. Does this mean that we don’t have challenges and struggles? Absolutely not. However, when we have needs or issues that, in reality, we do not have the capability to meet, miraculously resources and means become available! The author compares it to the story of how the five loaves and two fishes fed the multitude and there were even leftovers. So, when times get tough, have faith that you can make withdrawals from your Heavenly Account, because God expects you to.

We also depend on this Heavenly Account at the end of time. Although we are all invited into Heaven when we align our life with God, we cannot think that all souls will be equal in beatitude, supreme blessedness and/or exalted happiness. In Matthew 16:22 it states, “For the Son of Man will come with His angels in His Father’s glory, and then He will repay everyone according to his conduct.” Let us live our lives focused not on earthly treasures, but rather on increasing our Heavenly Account.
