Public Service Announcement
Several of our parishioners have reported getting an email that was an email virus. The email has an envelope that says "Join Us!" with a button to click that says “Open Invitation". The internet defines an email virus as follows, "is a malicious code or link sent through an email that can infect a computer, system, or server. Email viruses can be difficult to stop because they can replicate by sending copies of themselves to other people's email addresses". What is happening is that once the person clicks to open the invitation, the virus gets access to all of the person’s email contacts. It then replicates the visrus emails and sends it to all of your contacts using your email address so it seems like it is coming from a credible source/person. Should you get an email like the one just described, please do not clink on any link, button or envelope. Just delete.
The Archdiocese is also sharing information because this is happening at an alarming rate. Please find some resources below to better understand how these virus emails work and how to protect your devices.
