Our Building Committee has been meeting for months, working with our architect, HBL & Associates. We have chosen a General Contractor, Fretz Construction. And now I can happily announce that we are BREAKING GROUND on our first building on our new property site at the end of Riverstone Ranch Road.. Mark your calendars NOW.
Ground Breaking Event Saturday, September 1, 2012.
That’s right. We are officially announcing that we will be celebrating a ground breaking event on Saturday, September 1. The Building Committee has been hard at work and we will be breaking ground for a new 10,000 square foot multi-purpose meeting space. The space will have 9-10 classrooms with one that will seat up to 300 people theater style. We are also planning a covered pavilion that would enable us to have events outside. This is truly an exciting time for the Catholic Community of St. Luke the Evangelist. 36 years ago the founders of our parish had a vision of a community built on the virtue of Christian Stewardship and for all of these years, we have worked to live that Christian truth. Now, God has brought us to another great mile stone in our spiritual lives. Most of us know that we have long out-grown our space and property here at 11011 Hall Road. We have staff offices in hallways and in loft areas that were originally meant to be storage spaces. We have religious education classes throughout the week because we do not have enough classrooms and ministries struggle to find space to meet in the evenings. This building will not solve all of our space issues, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. And we finally get to set foot on our new property.
As Christians we are told that we can move mountains as long as we have faith. It is easy to see how building a new home for our parish can seem just as insurmountable a task. But we are told to have faith and that what we pray for, we shall receive if we believe. These are hard financial times, money is often the hardest of gifts with which to part. God, nor your parish, want you to go without the basic necessities in life nor the simple pleasures now and then that help keep you going. In the book of James we are told “Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves…[be] one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does” (James 1:22 ff). Though nothing can be more important than building up the People of God, it is also important for a Christian community to have adequate space for its ministries and activities. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in anyway to get us to this moment.
Mark your calendars and get ready for a great day in the history of St. Luke’s Parish. We will be celebrating our Saturday Vigil Mass on site. Everyone bring your lawn chairs and come ready to give God praise and thanks for getting us to this wonderful and historic moment in our history.
