The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process by which people become full members of the Catholic Church. This is a formative process, which includes community building, liturgical rites, prayer, reflection time, and education. Each component is important and is intended to prepare participants to discern God's call to commit themselves to the Catholic Christian life.

Becoming Catholic Adults who want to become Catholic are initiated through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Children over 7 years old are brought into the Church through an adapted version for Children.
Within the process of RCIA there are 4 stages: ♦ Inquiry - initial interest in the faith ♦ The Catechumenate - begins with the Rite of Acceptance ♦ Purification & Enlightenment - begins with the Rite of Election on the 1st Sunday of Lent ♦ Mystagogy - where the newly initiated Catholics reflect on their experience of the mysteries and continue to grow in their faith.
This
process can be compared to the development of a romantic relationship.
Pray for our Catechumens (unbaptized) and Candidates (baptized either Catholic or in another Christian faiths, waiting to become fully Catholic) as they prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. Many of our Catechumens and Candidates will enter the Church during at the Easter Vigil.
