In August of 1988 the Knights of Columbus 9201 ordered the statue of Mary ($1100) from Sacco which had it imported from Italy. The statue was later officially installed in the Courtyard (November 1988) to much resistance. During this time, statues were not a welcomed part of our parish culture. The statue was originally placed in the courtyard, closer to one of the side entrances to the church. The statue was later moved to a more accessible part of the courtyard, where we have prayed with her ever since. The statue of Mary has since become an integral part of our prayer groups and celebrations. A member of the original council who campaigned to have the statue brought in, stated that every time he sees someone praying with the statue of our Holy Mother, it warms his heart and made fighting the good fight worth it!
