Consuelo (Chelo) Walss-Bass is a professor at the Louise A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, McGovern Medical School, at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston. Chelo has dedicated her life to the study of the biological mechanisms that underlie severe psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. She is strongly committed to educating the community on the biological causes of mental disorders, to reduce the stigma associated with these illnesses. She believes that putting a “biological face” onto these disorders will help the community at large in viewing these disorders as they do cancer or diabetes.
Chelo lives with her husband, two children, father and sister. She and her family have been parishioners at St. Luke the Evangelist since 2014.
