How Can We Support Each Other
As the War Continues in the Ukraine?

With all the stories in the media of people suffering as the war rages on in the Ukraine, many of us feel helpless, asking ourselves, what can we do?

The USCCB has provided on their website, a link to the Catholic News website, where you can find various Catholic agencies who are collecting donations to aid with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. https://www.catholicnews.com/update-where-to-give-to-help-ukraine/

Many of us are finding ourselves in a situation of hardship as well because of the rising prices of this war, effects that have trickled down to many. If you find that you are not able to help financially, remember there is always, and foremost, prayer. Through prayer, we can be deeply united with God and with those around us. Prayer is meant to be our spiritual and emotional life-line, as well. Many times, when it comes to “big” things like wars, it might be difficult to believe that prayer can do anything. We must remember what Jesus told us, “Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father”.  (Matthew 18:19) Yes, war can seem like a very BIG thing, but we need to remember always, that our God is greater!

When Jesus says, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20), He is not only speaking of the importance of coming together in church as a worshipping community, He is also inviting us to let Him be a part of all that is going on in our lives. Private Prayer can bind us together in a wonderful and loving way.

Often when difficult times are occurring in other areas of the US/world, we tend to forget that there are people suffering much closer to us. Let us not forget about our family, friends and neighbors. With the rising prices of food, utilities and gas, many people are struggling to stay afloat. These people are also victims of this war and we must care for them as well. Check in on your family, friends and neighbors to make sure they are okay and offer assistance if they need a helping hand.

This too shall pass. We will get through it the only way we know how…Together in prayer and with the help of our Heavenly Father.

Con todas las historias en los medios de personas que sufren mientras la guerra continúa en Ucrania, muchos de nosotros nos sentimos impotentes y nos preguntamos, ¿qué podemos hacer?

Si descubre que no puede ayudar financieramente, recuerde que siempre, y ante todo, esta la oración. A través de la oración, podemos estar profundamente unidos con Dios y con quienes nos rodean. La oración también está destinada a ser nuestra línea de vida espiritual y emocional. Muchas veces, cuando se trata de cosas “grandes” como las guerras, puede ser difícil creer que la oración puede hacer algo. Debemos recordar lo que Jesús nos dijo: “Otra vez [amén] os digo que si dos de vosotros se ponen de acuerdo en la tierra acerca de cualquier cosa por la cual han de orar, les será concedida por mi Padre celestial”. (Mateo 18:19) Sí, la guerra puede parecer algo muy GRANDE, pero debemos recordar siempre que nuestro Dios es más grande.

Cuando Jesús dice: “Porque donde están dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos”. (Mateo 18:20), Él no solo está hablando de la importancia de reunirse en la iglesia como una comunidad de adoración, sino que también nos invita a dejar que Él sea parte de todo lo que sucede en nuestras vidas. La oración privada puede unirnos de una manera maravillosa y amorosa.

A menudo, cuando ocurren tiempos difíciles en otras áreas de los EE. UU./el mundo, tendemos a olvidar que hay personas que sufren mucho más cerca de nosotros. No nos olvidemos de nuestra familia, amigos y vecinos. Con el aumento de los precios de los alimentos, los servicios públicos y el gas, muchas personas luchan por mantenerse a flote. Estas personas también son víctimas de esta guerra y también debemos cuidarlas. Contacte a su familia, amigos y vecinos para asegurarse de que estén bien y ofrezca asistencia si necesitan ayuda.

Esto también pasará. Lo superaremos de la única manera que sabemos… Juntos en oración y con la ayuda de nuestro Padre Celestial.
