Our Parish of St. Luke has a regular assignment at Memorial Southeast Hospital to minister and provide for the needs of the sick. Tony Zucha, Jim Moore and Deacon Jessie Tollett are one of these teams who visit at this hospital on a regular basis. Tony stated:
"I have been doing this for 6 months ever since I retired, I felt I needed to do and give something of myself and now I have the time to do it. Why did I choose this ministry? I can remember many years ago, in Temple TX., my dad had a stroke and he didn't remember anyone and couldn't move. I would take him outside beside the old mesquite tree to get him some fresh air. An old friend of his would come by and bring him communion - and my dad's eyes would light up at the sight of him possibly knowing why he was there. I will always remember that act of kindness to my dad. I guess that is why I chose this ministry. I visit the hospital twice a month with my group depending on the number of people we need to see we spend an hour or more visiting the sick."
And Jim added:
"we visit, talk, pray with them, bring them communion and it is rewarding when you walk in a room and people light up. Sometimes I have a translator to help when people do not speak English and this makes the patients very happy."
