Home Altar
According to the Second Vatican Council’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Church: “The family, is so to speak, the domestic church.” (LG 11) This means, that it is within the family unit that we first learn who God is and to prayerfully seek His will for us. With that said, we encourage all of our parish families to have a Home Altar where family members can either pray individually or as a unit, consequently strengthening their relationship with God.
Suggestions to start a Home Altar:
*A Surface to set it up on. This could be any surface. Some religious items:
* Bible
* Blessed Candle (pic a large one so that it might last you a while)
* Rosary
* Statue (Jesus/Mary) and or crucifix/cross
* Prayer Book(s)
* Holy Water (font or bottle of water)
The candles kept by us in our homes should be seen as a sign of Christ “the light of the world” and as an expression of faith.
