Since the origin of our parish, our concept of giving has been based on the idea that each individual, as well as the community of St. Luke as a whole, must give based on the new life we have received through Jesus Christ. Our parish recognizes that this commitment is basic to living a Christian life.
St. Paul said:
“He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver”
(l Corinthians 9:6-7).
St. Paul emphasizes that everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided. When we live out this commitment, it helps bind us together in Christ, as we share our prayers, time, talent, and financial resources.
This commitment goes deeper than just answering the needs of others, for unless we cheerfully make a commitment of ourselves, we cease being channels through which God the Father bestows His blessings and life upon others. If we are not willing to commit ourselves, our life in Christ withers.
All we have comes from God, and we become most alive when we share those blessings with others as God intended.
The original Concept of Giving statement was formulated and adopted by the
Parish Council on September 1976.
At the time of its genesis, St. Luke the Evangelist was the first parish in the diocese to begin this concept of giving. Since then, this concept of giving has expanded to a diocesan-wide philosophy.
