Today, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ the Savior of the World!
Christmas is a time to celebrate family! As we open gifts, we can never allow ourselves to forget the “reason for the season.” Include readings from the first chapters of either Matthew or Luke as a part of your gift opening excitement. We have already been gifted, therefore we can offer gifts to others. We can only give gifts because we were first gifted by the God-son, who is Jesus. Our gift-giving should always be in imitation of His self-less gift to us, to take away our sins and to redeem us in the love of God the Father. One of the most precious gifts that we can give to one another is time. Your spouse wants the gift of the time of their partner, your children want the gift of the time of their parents – not on the person’s terms but on theirs. Spend time with your loved ones. Take your spouse on a date, play with your children – on their level. Call your family out of town, have some prayer time as a family. Dads and moms, the two of you also need to spend some quality time together. Read and talk about St. Joseph and Mary and what they had to go through as a consequence of their yes, then ask them to assist you by their prayers.
