You turn on the TV or radio, grab a newspaper, jump online or open any of the social media platforms and there is nothing but apocalyptic dialogue. You decide to get away from it all for a little while so you jump in the car and go to the grocery store to get some last minute things and there it is...empty aisles and no more toilet paper, visual proof that might make us think the world is coming to an end! I know that it is hard not to allow yourself to be caught up in the fear, anxiety and panic of it all. But you have to remember, we are not alone. We know what to do when the waters are rough and we are scared. We MUST keep our eyes focused on Jesus. Do not allow yourself to lose that focus because you will drown in the panic, anxiety and hype. Do your part, take precautions and then just keep your eyes on Jesus.
We are still in our Lenten Season. If schools and businesses are closed, then take this time to build a better relationship with Jesus, your family, your spouse and even your pets. Our lives are always so busy, we often don’t have enough time to devote to our relationships. You might consider this a Lenten gift from God. As for what might happen...Harvey filled our homes and businesses with water. All the communication formats were filled with apocalyptic dialogue. But through it all we kept our humor, we kept our nerve, we kept our strength and above all we kept our faith. People of St. Luke, we have been through tough times before, but just in case you have forgotten, here is a prayer to help you refocus:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
We are committed to serving our parish and community.
We are Houston Strong, We are Strong in Our Faith... We Are St. Luke!
