Let Your Light Shine
On a real pumpkins or on construction paper have the child write their name and what their name means. On the real pumpkin place a light source inside and let the light shine through! - Pumpkin template
Book of the Dead
Have each child create a book (or provide one store bought). Have them decorate their book and include the names and pictures (hand drawn or actual print) of those close to them who have died in their book. Because many children have not yet experienced the loss of a loved one, encourage them to include the names & pictures of any lost pets. Place the books on the classroom altar or your home family altar. If you do not have one in place already, then create a special place where their book can be placed.
Prayer Candle
Create a candle craft using baby food jars so that each child will have their own candle to light and offer their prayers.
Materials
Baby food jar (cleaned out) - decorate outside of jar if you wish.
Sand or small pebbles - place 1" of sand/pebbles at the bottom of jar
Votive candle - place centered in sand or small pebbles.
Cover and tie with ribbon or your choice of decorative material.
Attach prayer. (Print out of prayer)
Parental supervision is needed when lighting the candle and when blowing candle out.
Grave Etchings Take a trip to the cemetery to visit the gravestone(s) of your loved one(s). Talk about death and the new life we all have in Jesus. Take material to make an etching of the name(s) on the headstone(s).
